History and Development of the Faculty
The Faculty of Agriculture at Süleyman Demirel University began its educational activities in the 1994-1995 academic year with 30 students each in the Departments of Horticulture and Food Engineering, located in the Atabey district, 25 km away from Isparta. The faculty graduated its first cohort of students in the 1997-1998 academic year.
In the 2000-2001 academic year, the faculty relocated to the main Süleyman Demirel University campus in Çünür location. The Department of Food Engineering was transferred to the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in the 2007-2008 academic year. Currently, the Faculty of Agriculture comprises the following departments:
- Department of Horticulture
- Department of Plant Protection
- Department of Agricultural Economics
- Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering
- Department of Agricultural Biotechnology
- Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation
- Department of Field Crops
- Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition
- Department of Animal Science
The faculty is located on the Eastern Campus, which also houses the Education, Research, and Practice Farm where faculty members and students engage in practical activities, research, and projects. There is also a sales office on the farm that sells the agricultural and animal products produced there.
On May 18, 2018, in accordance with Article 7 of Law No. 7141, published in the Official Gazette No. 30425, the faculty became part of the newly established Isparta University of Applied Sciences and was renamed the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies.
According to the Decision on the Establishment, Closure, and Renaming of Institutes, Faculties, and Schools Affiliated with Some Higher Education Institutions (Decision No: 1613), published in the Official Gazette No. 30908 on October 4, 2019, the faculty was renamed back to the Faculty of Agriculture under the Isparta University of Applied Sciences and continues its educational activities in its current location.
